In my twenty-plus years as a chef, I have utilised a variety of ordering/stocktaking systems, and other software and nothing is comparable to Costimator and the support the MLF team (My local foodie) provides. The program allows me to perform my monthly stocktaking, menu costing and ordering platform all in one. It gives me instant reports on COGS and top and bottom sellers within my menu at any given time which allows me to keep within budget, saving the business money and myself time. For a chef, to have this tool at my disposal is essential to be able to create a profitable kitchen. My personal favourite part of the system has been being able to provide accurate reporting to my CEO.I am able to back my decisions with information not just guess work enabling me to improve the business. Dreaded stock take is no longer a headache or a disruptive event within my day. Just a few hours of my morning and it is completed. "Nice" My MLF representative Dave is only a call away with all the support I need. If I have a problem, he has the answer in a timely manner or talks me through the process to get it resolved. The menu writing and costing feature is where this system is beneficial for me as a Head chef. What took me weeks, is now reduced to days with all recipes written in the program using pantry lists. Once it goes live, the new menu connects to our pos system updating the data base so it is ready for stocktake at the end of the month. Admin appreciate that. From my experience with ordering platforms like Costimator a key difference is the partnership and mutual respect between MLF and SEG. Having reps and staff that are from the industry that genuinely care and understand the restraints that chefs have in Melbourne. The team at MLF are very solution based with a direct result focussed response to every challenge that comes up. For example, having a vision of a product for a new menu but no time to source it MLF come to the party with multiple options from various suppliers. We had a supplier go into liquidation and with the help from MLF had a new supplier ready to deliver the following day. MLF only work with reputable suppliers which makes Costimator a great tool, with no wasting time sifting through the weeds of suppliers. Having the ability to see multiple locations cost centres is invaluable as it gives me the ability to control food cost from wherever I am. Utilising a central cost centre for recipe building and costing allows me to ensure that all locations are using the most up to date versions of the menus and recipes. I consider MLF a partnership because of the level of care they have for us and our company’s growth and success, I have worked with a lot of reps and companies that are not as involved or willing to help. There is no task that is too hard or out of the realm of MLFs assistance. They are always willing to offer training, help, or guidance on all things Costimator when we hire new staff which saves me a lot of time. I love being able to bounce my silly ideas for menus with someone from MLF who will either hype me up with finding the products or keep me grounded with realistic substitutes. Thanks.
